Featured Choreographers: Anna Carbone & Cassie Carroll

Anna Carbone and Cassie Carroll, both sophomores in MCDE are bringing the fun and the sass to this semester’s show. Their dance is a musical theater jazz number to “Beautiful People” by Christina Aguilera from the film “Burlesque.” “We are able to combine our love for theater with our passion for dance and bring something new to the table” Carbone and Carroll said. As one can imagine, the number is filled with theatrics and a whole lot of attitude, the concept being that the dancers are the beautiful people that everyone loves and wants to be like. The more sass, the better.

This is Carbone and Carroll’s first time choreographing together, as well as for MCDE and they love the experience. They enjoy being able to bounce ideas off of each other, saying “collaborating with another dancer gives the dance a very unique touch. We work off of each other very well and seem to get a lot done fairly quickly.” Carbone and Carroll especially enjoy working with the girls in their classes, but find working with dancers of all different levels the hardest part about choreographing for MCDE. Despite this, they are optimistic about how classes are going. “We have a great group of girls and everyone seems genuinely excited to show some attitude onstage. The dance is coming together and looking great!” said Carbone and Carroll.

Both Carbone and Carroll have strong dance backgrounds, starting when they were very young, but dance is not the only activity they have done. When asked to share something interesting about themselves, Carbone shared that she has a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, while Carroll revealed that she did gymnastics until a wrist injury caused her to need to give up the sport and become more involved in her dancing. Both girls have also been highly involved in musical theater performances, part of their inspiration for this number.

Although this is only their third semester in the MCDE, Carbone and Carroll love the experience that the club provides them with. “I love being able to share my passion with others! I also love that Dance Ensemble can give back to the community by doing what we love” said Carbone while Carroll stated “I love the performance. The energy is contagious and I love seeing the finished product.”  Carbone and Carroll hope to continue their involvement in the club by choreographing again in the future.
